Update on Nature Babies Preschool Class

I took my 3 year old and my 5 year old to the Ogden Nature Center's Nature Babies Preschool class and it was so cute. The kids had a ball! They started off with a song and dance, the kids got to act out different "nature baby animals" along with a song. Then they did some "finger plays" like Here is Peter, Here is Paul and followed that up with "nature babies Yoga" where they did some Yoga stretches acting like baby animals.

After the large group activities they broke into smaller groups and had three different activities. I the order we went, they made a darling baby chick out of a cotton ball and put it inside a plastic Easter Egg and then we walked out to the pond to see what baby animals we could see. That was followed by the kids planting some seeds and last, but not least, a darling story and snack time.

Once all the activities were over, we were able to wander around the nature center for the rest of the day. I wasn't prepared for that so we were not able to spend much time. Next time I will be better prepared.

The cost of the class was $3 per Child and Adults are free, that includes entrance to the Nature Center for the remainder of the day. It is for children ages 3 to 5 years of age. Check my activities link for dates and times of the next classes.

No Sew Baby Blankie

By far, this is the cutest and easiest baby blankie I have seen in quite awhile!

You will need:
1 yard each of two colors solid fleece
6 yards 1" matching patterned ribbon
Cutting Wheel

Start by laying the pieces of fabric good sides out on a cutting mat. Starting at one end cut around the edge to make a wave patterned edge. Then going in 3" from the edge cut 1" vertical slits through both pieces of fabric at 1" intervals turning the corners at 3" from the egde. Cut your ribbon into 4 pieces. Keeping both pieces of fabric together weave the ribbon through the slots. At the corners tie a bow, or for a boy you can simple knot it and angle the end of the ribbon.

This makes the easiest, cutest blanket I have seen in awhile and the total price is can be as little as $11 with the 40% off coupons you can get from most of the major craft stores.

Half Priced Aquarium Admissions

The Living Planet Aquarium is a must for any family. It makes a fun and educational outing for adults and children of all ages. It is so much fun to see your children's eyes light up the first time they touch a stingray or see the fantasy play out in your daughters eyes the first time she sees a "real" seahorse.

There is so much fascination surrounding the "under water world" and finally, we in Utah have the opportunity to experience a small portion of that.

The Living Planet Aquarium is located at 725 East 10600 South in Sandy, UT 84094. Admission is: $8 for adults $7 for seniors & students $5 children (3 – 12) and Ages 2 and under are FREE. Their regular hours are Friday & Saturday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday - Thursday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Now here comes the best part! The first Monday of the month (That would be today!) is Family night and from 4-6pm, they offer HALF PRICED ADMISSIONS!

That is a great savings! Take my family of 7, that would be 2 adults at $8 and 5 children at $5 for a total of $41. On Monday night I can take my whole family for $20.50! That's a reasonably priced outing for my family.

Outdoor Play Gyms

Looking for Outdoor Play Gyms I was getting pretty depressed. I could not find a nice one for under $1000, I had around half that to spend. Well, I got angry and decided that I would build my own.

I would highly suggest this to anyone that wants a nice Play Gym for many reasons. First of all, you can customize it to suit your children. I have one that adores the monkey bars and another that would be lost without a steering wheel. Rock wall... not so important to my kids. The point is, all children are individual and not all children need the extra expense of a fire pole. So they are customizable. Second, if you build it yourself, you can add on later. You can even leave the space to add on when you get the time and the money. Third is of course the money issue. You can build one for half the price you can buy one.

Home Depot carries all the accessories. The swings, the slides, the rock wall and the fire poles. Even the steering wheel. They sell brackets and hooks as well.

Now when it comes to wood, my experience has been that Lowe's has the best selection and nicest wood. The wood I bought at Lowe's compared to the wood I bought at Home Depot, was lighter and drier, in better shape, had less gouges and defects and was finished better. Now, I still sanded it to protect it from splintering and I sealed it before I put it together, to protect it further. But I do believe Lowe's to have the better selection of Redwood at least.
